Engage Women's Wellbeing Day

Engage Wellbeing Day

On a cold, wet and windy Saturday morning, the sounds of drums, conducted by Marcella Gilliard from Community Tribal drummers, could be heard across Writers’ Square. This signaled the beginning of Start360’s women’s wellbeing day, organised by the ENGAGE women’s team.

The idea of a wellbeing day came from the participants of the ENGAGE women’s project, who knew alternative lifestyle choices could impact on all aspects of their lives.

Start360 was transformed into a haven of comfort, relaxation, discovery and empowerment. A welcoming breakfast of muesli, yogurt, fresh fruit, scones and jam awaited our early visitors.

Throughout the day a steady stream of ladies of all ages participated in a range of activities, depending on their interest. Complimentary therapies available included reflexology from Patricia McShane (Tranquil Retreat), Indian head massage, and hand massage offered by the amazing ladies of The Health and Wellbeing Company. Yoga introductory classes were expertly delivered by Rachel and the cold of outside was soon forgotten. A mindfulness session was provided by the inspirational Veronica Ellis from Mindfulness Connected Learning.

A cookery demonstration was led by Kim Close and Helen McCourt from The Kitchen Social, highlighting the ability to cook well for less. Everyone enjoyed the delicious lunch together afterwards, followed by hot apple pie and custard.

In the afternoon an inspiring and humorous motivational talk was given by Louise Taylor Workshops, Counselling and Coaching, who inspired us through her own amazing change journey.

Finally, a creative writing for wellness class was facilitated by the brilliant Belinda Bennett – this was inspiring and thought provoking.

By the end of the day, we had all developed new and inspiring ways of relaxing and taking care of ourselves. We made new friends and contacts to use in continuing our journeys.
