RDV works with ex-service members who have had contact with the criminal justice sector and have issues with substance use.

About the Programme

RDV is for ex-service members (Army, Air Force and Navy). The RDV project will be available to anyone who is in custody or has had contact with the criminal justice sector.

Support will be offered to those who present with a substance use issue including alcohol, and who are willing to engage. Their engagement can begin whilst they are in custody and up to six months post-release.


When a referral is received, an Assessment of Need will be completed with the client to see what support the individual requires.

The various interventions available for the client:

  • 12 sessions of casework (Must have one year left on their sentence)
  • Family support – unstructured
  • Peer-led support group(s)
  • Harm reduction
  • Psycho-education
  • Referral pathways
